What Plants Add to a Cleaning Visit
Indoor plants make more mess than you might think. Leaves fall, soil spills out of pots, water leaves rings on sills and furniture, and dust lands on big leaves. A few plants don’t cause much mess. But a home with lots of plants in many rooms takes more cleaning time.
Common Plant-Related Cleaning Tasks
- Vacuuming dropped leaves and soil around the base of pots and planters, as part of the floors in a standard visit.
- Wiping water rings off side tables and other high-touch surfaces. Windowsills and shelving are worth raising when you book.
- Dusting broad leaves on larger plants like fiddle leaf figs or monstera is not part of the standard checklist and is best done by you, since you know how each plant handles being touched.
- Cleaning around hanging planters — wiping nearby surfaces that catch drips or falling leaves from hanging pots.
What Stays With the Plant Owner
We don’t water plants, add fertilizer, cut branches, repot plants, or do any plant care during a cleaning visit. We won’t move plants to clean under or behind them unless the pot is light and meant to be moved. We leave heavy pots like ceramic or stone in place. We do this so we don’t crack them or spill soil on a clean floor. If you want the floor fully cleaned under big plants, move the pots yourself first or ask us. That’s the surest way to get it done.
Water Damage Is the Real Risk
The main problem in homes with lots of plants isn’t dust. It’s water. Pots without drainage saucers, too much watering, or plants on wood furniture cause stains and warping over time. Cleaning doesn’t fix this. If you see water marks near plants, fix the saucer or drainage. Don’t expect a cleaning visit to fix water damage that’s already there.
Sunrooms and Plant-Heavy Rooms
Homes with a room just for plants or a sunroom full of plants have special needs. They have more moisture, more fallen leaves, and windows that fog up and need more cleaning. - Empty any saucers that are close to overflowing before the visit.
- Move small, easily shifted pots out of walking paths if you want the floor fully cleared underneath.
- Flag any plants that are delicate, recently repotted, or sensitive to being brushed against.
