A great room with a vaulted ceiling looks good, and then the ceiling fan 14 feet up starts to show dust. Tall rooms are harder to maintain mostly because of access. This post covers what a visit does in a home like that and what to tell us when you book.
Height Changes the Tools, Not the Dust
A fixture at 8 feet can be reached from a step stool. One at 16 or 18 feet needs a long pole and a different approach, and many households simply skip it. Over time that shows up as dust on fan blades and fixtures that is visible from across the room.
Spots in Tall Rooms Worth Pointing Out
- Ceiling fans: dust sits on the top of each blade and drops when the fan runs.
- Pendants and chandeliers: arms and glass shades hold dust in small gaps.
- Transom windows: placed above eye level, they tend to be forgotten.
- Tops of tall bookcases and cabinets: flat surfaces above arm’s reach.
What Is and Is Not on the Standard Checklist
A standard cleaning covers wiping high-touch areas, the exterior of appliances, vacuuming and mopping floors, and trash removal. Dusting fans, fixtures and tall shelving is not listed there. If you want any of it done, mention it when you book and we will tell you what is possible with the tools on hand.
Fixtures that would need to be taken down, or work that needs a ladder, are outside the visit. We would rather say so than attempt something unsafe.
Tell Us When You Book
Ceiling height affects how long a visit takes. A room with an 18-foot ceiling and a large chandelier is a different job than a 9-foot room of the same square footage.
Starting Point
If the fixtures have not been addressed in a long time, a deep cleaning is the natural first visit, followed by a recurring schedule if you want one.
