People use the words clean, sanitized, and disinfected as if they mean the same thing. They do not. Here is what each word means, and which one our visits are.
Cleaning: Taking Off Dirt
Cleaning removes dirt, crumbs, grease, and grime from a surface. You use soap or a cleaner and some wiping. Cleaning does not promise to kill germs. It takes away the mess they sit in. A clean counter is one where the mess is gone. This is what a regular visit does: wipe the counters, vacuum, and mop.
Sanitizing: Fewer Germs
Sanitizing lowers the number of germs on a surface. It does not remove all of them. You see this word most for kitchen counters and cutting boards.
Disinfecting: Killing Named Germs
Disinfecting uses EPA-registered products made to kill certain bacteria and viruses. The product has to stay wet on the surface for a set time. That time is called dwell time. Disinfecting is a set process with set products. It is common in hospitals and some workplaces.
Where Homeowners Get Confused
Some companies say “disinfect” when they just wipe a toilet or tub with bathroom cleaner. That is a normal wipe-down. It is not the same as a medical-grade disinfecting service with dwell times. Our visits are cleaning. We take off dirt, dust, and buildup. We do not offer sanitizing or disinfecting as a separate service. We would rather say that than have you assume it.

- Cleaning: takes off visible dirt and grime. It does not aim at germ counts.
- Sanitizing: lowers germ counts. It does not remove them all.
- Disinfecting: kills named germs with set products and wait times.
Ask yourself what you need. Do you want a home that looks and smells clean? Or do you need to control germs for a health reason? The first is a house cleaning job. The second is a different job.
What to Book

If You Have a Health Concern
Maybe someone at home is sick or has a weak immune system. Ask a doctor which products to use. That is a medical question. A standard or deep cleaning visit can handle the dirt. It does not replace your doctor’s advice.
