Listings, landlords, and cleaners all say “move-in ready,” but they mean different things. Before you hire a cleaner for a new home, it helps to know what the phrase covers. Here is how we use it and what a move-in visit from us includes.
The Baseline: A Clean Slate, Not a Renovation
For us, “move-in ready” means only cleaning. We clean out dust, dirt, and grime from the home. We clean inside the cabinets and main appliances so you can start unpacking. We don’t do repairs, paint, or upgrades. A home can be clean and still need paint or repairs. Those are separate jobs.
Why It’s a Different Job Than a Standard Clean
A standard cleaning is routine upkeep for a home someone lives in. A move-in visit is for an empty home. Nobody has opened the cabinets or oven in a while, and you don’t know what the last tenant left. So we do more work: our deep clean, plus inside cabinets and drawers. This is easy while the home is empty.
What’s Typically Included
- High-touch areas wiped down
- Exterior of the appliances wiped
- Inside the oven, the fridge, and the microwave
- Inside the cabinets and drawers (the home is vacant)
- Floors vacuumed and mopped
- Trash removed (one bag)
What It Doesn’t Include
Move-in cleaning removes dirt and grime. It does not cover repairs, paint, pest control, or structural problems. Water damage, mold beyond a surface wipe, or anything needing maintenance should go to a specialist. That happens before or with the cleaning. Anything outside this list is an add-on. Mention it when you ask for a quote.
How to Verify a Home Is Actually Move-In Ready
Do a short walkthrough before the boxes arrive to see if the cleaning went right. Open a few cabinets and drawers, and look inside the fridge and oven. Rushed jobs often skip these spots, so check the floors and bathroom too. If something looks wrong, tell us right away. The rooms are still empty, so it’s easy to reach.
Apartment vs. Single-Family Differences
“Move-in ready” looks different depending on the home type. A rented apartment may already have a turnover clean from the property manager, and how much that covers varies. A single-family home that changed owners usually has no cleaning done before you get the keys. Pricing and Timing
Move-in cleaning starts at $285+ for a studio and scales up by home size (1BR $295+, 2BR $345+), with the final quote depending on square footage and condition. If your dates allow it, schedule the clean for a day or two before the move, so the rooms are still empty when we work and you aren’t carrying boxes around us. Setting Realistic Expectations
A move-in clean gets the home to a clean starting point. It does not make an older home look new. Worn flooring and old fixtures are part of the home, and cleaning does not change them.
