Before your first visit, people ask a lot about rugs, curtains, and slipcovers. Fabric is harder to clean safely than a countertop. This post shows what we do on a standard or deep cleaning visit in Arlington, and what we don’t do.

Area Rugs

Area rugs get vacuumed during a standard visit, like wall-to-wall carpet. If a rug can be lifted safely, we vacuum under it and around the edges. A standard visit does not include deep shampooing, steam cleaning, or special care for delicate or old rugs. Those need special equipment and knowledge. If your rug has a bad stain or heavy dirt, ask about it separately. Don’t assume it’s part of a standard or deep clean.

Curtains and Drapes

During a visit, curtains get light dusting or a quick vacuum pass. We clean the outside dust only, not wash or dry clean them. Heavy fabrics, blackout linings, silk, and velvet need to be washed separately. Washing the wrong fabric can cause shrinkage or water damage. If you want curtains cleaned well, take them down before the visit and wash them yourself.

Blinds

Blinds are somewhere between rugs and curtains. A standard visit does not include taking blinds apart or cleaning the inside parts. Ask about slat wiping when you book. Vertical blinds and motorized blinds are easy to break if you use the wrong method. We clean what is safe to clean without breaking anything.

Furniture Covers and Slipcovers

We don’t remove, wash, or put back slipcovers during a visit. If you want slipcovers washed, take them off before the visit (check the care label first). You can wash them yourself or do it separately. Dusting or vacuuming furniture is not part of the standard checklist. Ask about it when you book if you want it.

Upholstered Furniture

Vacuuming sofas, chairs, and ottomans is not part of the standard checklist. The checklist covers floors only. Ask when you book if you want cushions vacuumed. Deep upholstery cleaning with steam or water is a specialty service. It’s not part of a general house cleaning visit.

Why the Line Is Drawn Here

It comes down to equipment and risk. Surface dusting and vacuuming are safe and work well for regular care. Deep cleaning rugs or curtains can cause shrinkage, color bleeding, or water damage. Using the wrong method on the wrong fabric is a real risk. It’s better to know what we do before the visit.

What to Do If You Want More

If a rug, curtain, or furniture needs more than a standard clean, tell us when you book. We can talk about what is possible for that visit. Some things may need a specialty service. For heavy furniture and large items, read our guide on what gets moved and what doesn’t.

The Bottom Line

On a standard cleaning visit we vacuum and mop the floors, including rugs. Fabric care is up to you or a specialist. If you want to talk about a certain rug or sofa, call 571-350-0866 before the visit. Or read about our cleaning services in Arlington.
