You booked the cleaning and picked a date. Now you’re wondering what to do before the team shows up. You don’t need to impress anyone. A few simple steps help everyone. The rest you can skip.
Do: Secure Pets Before Arrival
Pets can get upset when new people move through the house with vacuums. If your dog or cat runs for open doors, put them in a crate or closed room. Stay home during the visit if you can. This keeps your pet safe and helps the team work while doors are open for supplies.
Do: Put Away Valuables and Sensitive Items
Put away cash, jewelry, and important papers before anyone visits. The team you don’t know will be in your home. It’s the same idea as when contractors or dog walkers visit. It also keeps small items from getting knocked off shelves while the team cleans.
Do: Leave Clear Access Instructions
Tell us how to get in if you won’t be home. Give us a lockbox code, garage code, hidden key, or the name of a neighbor with a spare. Don’t just say it’s usually unlocked. If you have a security system, share the disarm code or turn it off before we arrive.
Don’t: Feel Obligated to Stay Home
Many people leave during the visit. That’s fine. You don’t need to watch us. If you stay home, that’s okay too. Just stay out of rooms we’re cleaning so we can work fast.
Do: Communicate Priorities Up Front
Tell us what matters most. Maybe it’s a bathroom you use a lot, a kitchen after a party, or a kid’s room before family visits. You can tell us when you book or leave a note. We’ll know where to focus.
Don’t: Expect Organizing or Heavy Decluttering
Cleaning and organizing are different. If counters and surfaces have lots of stuff on them, we have to work around it. That takes time away from cleaning. Pick up before we come. Clear off counters, pick up toys, and load the dishwasher. That way we can spend more time cleaning.
Do: Say Something If a Spot Gets Missed
Tell us right away if you notice something after we leave. The faster you tell us, the easier we can look into it. A short note helps us.
A Note on Tipping
Tipping is optional. If you want to say thanks, a short note is welcome either way.
The Bottom Line
Good etiquette has three things: let us in, clear a path for us, and tell us what matters most. The rest is optional. For your first visit, read our guide on what to expect on your first cleaning visit. You can book any time on our online booking page.
